To foster a company culture ready for transformational change, leaders must be knowledgeable, effective champions dedicated to continuous improvement. Lean Management Systems will provide your management team with the knowledge, skills, and tools to lead in a Lean environment. This course consists of five half days sessions each covering essential topics of Lean leadership:
Session One: Lean Overview—This session covers the methodology, primary principles, and common tools of Lean. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the differences between traditional and Lean manufacturing, and how to encourage transformational cultural change as Lean is extended throughout the organization.
Session Two: Lean Performance Measures—Participants will learn the correlation of measurements to behavior, how to align measurements with business strategies and objectives, review existing metrics, and discuss changes to performance measures that will drive your company forward in a Lean environment.
Session Three: Visual Management Systems—This module focuses on visual control boards, which provide a systematic approach to continuous improvement. Visual control boards give real time communication and feedback for your entire team, and facilitate quick problem solving. Participants will learn visual fundamentals and develop visual control boards to meet the lean performance measures defined in the previous session.
Session Four: Leader Standard Work—Standardization of leadership practices and accountability is equally important as the standardization of work practices on the shop floor. In this session, you will learn how leader standard work supports the transformation of your organization and will develop a daily accountability system for your leaders.
Session Five: A3 Methodology—Participants will learn the fundamental concepts of A3 problem solving, which reduces the problem to only essential information, keeps the information visible at all times, and improves the flow of knowledge. Your management team will study, analyze and develop A3 forms, and develop an A3 system for the visual control boards established in session three. We recommend that a company commit to all five modules. However, if a particular focus is needed, individual modules are available.
